Continental Croatia, discover this region, filled with breathtaking fields and deciduous forests. The gold of wheat fields is interspersed with the red of poppies, a sight that will surely stay with you. Not far from the fields you can find Vukovar, Ilok, and Nijemci.
Continental Croatia… Hmm, let us start with Vukovar, the largest Croatian river port, situated on the Danube river in the Croatian part of Syrmia. The Danube is a mighty river with a unique charm. The city of Vukovar is home to the Eltz Castle, home to the City Museum of Vukovar.
Further down the plains, between the slopes of Fruška Gora and the Danube, you can find Ilok, a small town with a tumultuous history and numerous vineyards. The region around Ilok is well-known for its high-quality wine, rich history, and friendly hosts.
Only an hour’s drive away from Ilok you can find Nijemci, a small village surrounded by dazzling landscapes and fields. If you are interested in birding you can find over 100 species of birds in Nijemci, some of which are extremely rare. The birding center has several locations that you simply must visit. You will enjoy birding with the help of binoculars, telescopes, and birding guidebooks.
The plains of Syrmia await. Come and enjoy a ride on the tourist boat St. Catherine, which sails down the rivers Bosut and Spačva.
