Lighthouse Veli Rat, a giant of the Adriatic Sea

pointerstravel-lighthouse-veli-rat-dugi-otok_jpeg_tQF5ZrkOuU.jpeg

Near the place of Veli Rat, on the northwestern cape of Dugi Otok, around pine forest and sandy beaches, proudly stands the grand beacon. With its 42 meters of carved stone, it’s the highest lighthouse on the Adriatic shore. Since it dates to 1849., we are sure it has many stories to tell.

In case you didn’t know…

For its life span and resistance to salt and time, yolks were mixed into the thick walls of the tower. As the story goes, 100 000 yolks have been used for the yellow facade of the lighthouse to be created.

Like a fairytale

One of the most beautiful lighthouses on the Adriatic, surrounded by a pine forest and sandy beaches, can offer you a unique view from its tower. If you think the fairytale view is all it has to offer, wait until you hear about this – you can even sleep here because the lighthouse offers accommodation. You can also visit the chapel of St. Nicholas, patron of seamen, who’s placed in the yard. You can listen to the sound of waves and the story the wind has hidden in the pine trees while you sleep in the lighthouse. It’s an unforgettable and unique experience.
