We made our way to our first destination and our accommodation:
Terme Tuhelj Spa Hotel is located next to a thermal spring in the mountainous region of Hrvatsko Zagorje, 40 km from Zagreb. Numerous indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and steam baths are available on site.
Hotel accommodation, free time, possibility of swimming, dinner, overnight.
Just a few meters from the hotel is the “Restaurant Schloss Mihanović”. With unique dishes, top wines from local winemakers and a special ambience, you will learn the history of the gastronomic beauty of Hrvatsko Zagorje.
After breakfast we drive to Klanjec, only 10 minutes away from Tuhelj.
Klanjec, a small town rich in culture, history and tradition, lies at the foot of Mount Cesarska Gora on the Sutla River, on the border with Slovenia.
We go first to the monumental building of the Franciscan monastery. The monastery houses the crypt of the Erdödy family, valuable sarcophagi from the 17th century, open to the public. The sarcophagi are the work of Viennese masters and are made in the early Baroque style.
A few steps from the monastery is the Gallery of Antun Augustinčić. It was founded in 1970 when Antun Augustinčić, one of the most important Croatian sculptors, donated his own sculptural work, created during his 50-year career, to his hometown of Klanjec.
A short city tour follows.
The picturesque center of the city is Antun Mihanović Square named after the author of the Croatian anthem Our Beautiful Homeland. A monument was erected in his honor in 1910, which today adorns the city’s main square.
The Jambrešić family started growing blackberries in Klanjec in the early 1990s. The main products are blackberry wine “Kupilek”, in addition they make jam, juice and blackberry syrup.
Short drive to “OPG Brankica Pleško”
In 2014, the family planted three varieties of damask roses. They created two lines of rose products – cosmetics and food. All products are made and packed by hand in Croatia.
Roses grow in the field between Tuheljske Toplice and Klanjec, far from the main road.
Tour of the farm and tasting.
We return to Tuheljske Toplice full of impressions and spend a relaxing afternoon in the Terme Tuhelj complex.
dinner, overnight stay.
Breakfast and swimming in the morning. Check-out at the hotel and a short tour of Tuhelj.
The most striking building is the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
As a cultural monument of the first category, it was built between 1350 and 1390. It is a single-nave late Gothic building that has been rebuilt several times. Next to the main facade is a late baroque bell tower. The front door from 1805 is made of wrought iron, and the large bronze crucifix is the work of the famous Croatian sculptor Antun Augustinčić.
The central square in Tuhelj is decorated with a statue of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
Recommendation for lunch in one of the restaurants with traditional local specialties.
In the afternoon we leave this picturesque area and drive home.
