Arrival in Otok, the youngest town in Croatia. We will take a look around Otočka Suvara, a horse-powered mill made in the 19th century. It has been declared a monument of the highest cultural value and is one of the only renewed and preserved objects of its kind in Croatia and southeast Europe. We continue our orientation walk around the town at the King Tomislav square where there is a monument dedicated to fallen Croatian airmen and defenders of Otok from the Homeland War.
Nearby are the Otočki Virovi, in the heart of Spačva basin. On our arrival, we will sail the water route of the Spačva basin by a panoramic boat. We reach Virgrad, make a short stop at the medieval archeological find and continue on an educational trail to a special reservation of forest vegetation called „Lože“. On our return back to the Centre, we take the trail called „Virovi“. All along the trail, there are panels set up that contain interesting information about all the plant and animal species characteristic for this area.
We will visit the multimedia hall that allows us to relive the natural wonders of the Spačva forests in an interactive, multimedia, and very fun way through a unique concept „Eyes of nature“.
Dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, we head off to the largest city in eastern Croatia on the Drava river, Osijek. First, we head to the Nature Park Kopački Rit. At arrival, a short presentation will be held at the reception center before our tour. Along the „White water lily“ trail we reach the boat dock and cruise the lake through the Special Zoological Reserve.
After sightseeing, it’s time for a traditional Slavonian lunch and a short rest. An orientational walk takes us through Tvrđa. The Osijek’s core dates back to the 18th century and was first made primarily as a key military strategic point on the border with the Ottoman Empire. We departure to the main town square passing by the pedestrian bridge and Sakuntala Park. In the very center, we can see a monument of Ante Starčević and the concathedral of St. Peter and Paul, a neo-Gothic church, the second-largest in Croatia. Not far from the city center, on the river Drava, there is a floating replica of an old mill that is also the largest mill-ship in Croatia.
Drive back to Otočki Virovi where dinner is served. Overnight stay.
Breakfast and check out. Before leaving, to top off this idyllic trip, we suggest you take some free time walking, cycling (renting cycling equipment is possible), or birdwatching in the surrounding untouched nature.
