Ilok culture and wine town

We come to the town of Ilok for accommodation in our rooms in the wine cellar “Stari podrum” Ilok.

An expert guide awaits us to show us the secrets of the old 15th-century cellar. This unique wine facility of Stat Ilok and its surroundings is an indicator of a very long tradition of viticulture and wine production in this area.

Right next to the cellar there is a restaurant where lunch is waiting for us, good taste.
Lunch and time to rest.

After the break we have a wine tasting, also in the old cellar.
However, for the last wine (sparkling wine) we will take the tourist train to the Odesalchi family estate to a special place.

Return to the Old Cellar, dinner, free time and overnight.

Breakfast and we start to get acquainted with the history of Ilok old town.

We will certainly start the history of the town of Ilok with Nikola Iločki, the most famous noble lord of this town. During his reign, Ilok experienced its “golden age” and the city center was fortified with walls that largely survive to this day. We visit the Church of St. Johan Capistrano, who is also the patron saint of Ilok town. We learn about its historical role for the city of Ilok and beyond. The old town has two monuments from the period of Ottoman rule, Turbe and Haman. And as the last point of the tour is the magnificent castle of the noble Odescalchi family, which is also the museum of the city of Ilok.

After visiting the museum, just a few meters away is the Ilok Cellar, where lunch awaits us.

After a rest in the afternoon we take a tour of the “Papak” winery. On the slopes of Fruška gora, the easternmost winery in Croatia.
Sightseeing and wine tasting.

Dinner awaits us on the banks of the Danube in the restaurant and hotel “Donau”.
The terrace offers a magnificent view of this mighty river.

Return to accommodation, overnight stay.

Breakfast and before heading home we will visit another winery in this area.

Stipetić Winery. The Stipetić family is an old Ilok family of cooperage, winegrowers and winemakers.
