Metković, as well as the whole Neretva valley, is rich in flora and fauna. Besides the soil improvement which made a fruitful soil, rich fauna world has been kept under the reserve ‘Pod gredom’.
The area of Metković is inhabited since ancient times, on which witnesses Illyrian graves, but the most important is the archeological locality antique Narona. The archeological museum Narona is the first in situ Museum in Croatia, built above the Augustinians, a temple dedicated to the emperor August.
The Natural History Museum of Metković has one of the most worthy ornithology collections in Europe. A unique collection of stuffed birds caught only on this area. It has more than 340 stuffed examples in which there are 218 bird examples from 310 seen in this area.
Through the whole year here you can find different manifestations from which some of the most important are: ,,Na Neretvu misečina pala’’, Metković cultural summer, Roman night, ship marathon…
Besides the rich cultural, historical and natural heritage, you will be amazed by their gastronomic offer, boat rides through the untouched wetland, but before everything – the kindness and hospitality of the locals.
