Stara Kapela – A Journey Through Time

Time to travel through time. In the southern part of Slavonia, among the slopes lies the small Slavonian village of Stara Kapela. Its locals have converted it into an Eco-Ethno village and a tourist destination to truly present how people used to live in this area.

Upon arrival, make yourself comfortable in one of the offered accommodations, each of which is decorated in a traditional style. Afterward, make your way to the educational and hiking-cycling trail about 20 km long. There is also a shorter and less demanding route that crosses through the marked trail. You will come across 6 rest areas along the trail with tables and benches, and 4 of them have replicas of “Čardaci” – old Turkish objects from the time of the Military Border. The “Čardaci” serve as observation posts, are 6 meters high, and offer beautiful views of the village and the wider surroundings.

Return to the village, it’s time for a weaving course in a weaving workshop! Learn a long-forgotten skill that has been part of the cultural heritage of this area for years. Through a short course, they will teach you the basics of weaving all kinds of traditional linen on a loom.

Time to prepare dinner, followed by an overnight stay.

Those seeking spiritual experience can walk up the Stations of the Cross to a nearby hill. You can get to know the place in a completely different way: by riding a tandem bicycle for two or by riding in a carriage because it is a special experience to listen to the stamping of horses as you pass through this peaceful area.
