Further on, we continue our tour by walking on an educational trail to a special reservation of forest vegetation called „Lože“. On our return to the Center, we will walk the educational trail called „Virovi“. There are panels set up that contain interesting information about all the flora and fauna species characteristic of this area.
We will visit the multimedia hall that allows you to relive the natural wonders of the Spačva forests in an interactive, multimedia, and very fun way through a unique concept „Eyes of nature“.
Dinner and overnight stay.
Two pearls of Syrmia await us by the Danube river. After breakfast, we make our way to the most eastern town in Croatia, Ilok. An orientation walk takes us to the 14th century St. John of Capistrano Church and to the central building of the medieval core of Ilok named Odescalchi castle, where the Ilok Municipal Museum is situated. We continue our guided tour to the wine cellar “Iločki podrum”, and listen to stories of their famous wines that were enjoyed by Roman emperors and the Queen of England herself.
We take off for lunch and more wine tasting at Papak winery. After a short break, we head towards the nearby country estate Principovac, a well-known viewpoint where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Ilok, Syrmia, and Bačka.
Continuing to Vukovar, we tour the city that became a symbol of resistance and Croatian freedom. Here we visit the new Water Tower. The panoramic elevator will take us to the memorial room with multimedia content, while the memorial trail leads us to the top viewpoint. This is where you can see spectacular views of the city, Danube and Syrmia.
Next up we take an orientation walk through the baroque city streets, pass the pedestrian bridge to the Memorial Cross situated on the mouth of river Vuka into the Danube. We have enough time to see the 18th-century baroque palace called Eltz Manor, which is the location of the Vukovar City Museum.
Return to Otočki Virovi, dinner, and overnight stay.
Next up are the pearls of Syrmia by the river Bosut. After breakfast, we take a short drive to Vinkovci, the oldest settlement in Europe. Our tour starts in Krnjaš Street. We will pass the restored birth house of Ivan Kozarac, the monument of “Šokački Romeo and Juliet” of Ivan and Marija Kozarac, and the monument of Josip Kozarac.
We approach the very center of the city along the river Bosut. In the town square, we can see the City Museum, the votive statue of St. Trinity, and a risen monument of the Croatian Ban Josip Šokčević, born in Vinkovci. North of the square is the baroque Church of St. Eusebius and Polyon from the 18th century. It was named after the early Christian martyrs and is registered as a cultural monument. We head to the pedestrian zone paved with motifs of Orion, the oldest Indo-European calendar which makes it unique in the world.
Our tour of Vinkovci ends up with lunch, then free time for rest, coffee, and refreshments in the heart of the city. We recommend your try Vinkovci craft beer Valens (named after the Roman emperor born in Vinkovci) in one of the local pubs.
On our way back to Otočki Virovi we visit Nijemci, a rural place through which the river Bosut flows. In the very center, we visit the Homeland Museum “Luka Natali”. It represents the historical story of this area, from its inception through the Middle Ages to recent history. We head to Sopotac, a picnic area, and have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful landscape, watch birds, walk and relax far away from the hustle of the city.
