Vukovar is situated in the north-eastern part of Croatia and is the center of the Vukovar-Syrmia county.
Did you know?
In the year of 1867, a printing office was founded here and it published the first Vukovar newspaper in German called “Der Syrmier Bote”. Later on, even more, printing offices were active and among the numerous newspapers “Sriemski Hrvat” and “Sriemske novine” stood out. They were in print for 30 years at the turn of the 20th century.
The city has its own Nobel winner
Lavoslav Ružička was born here in 1887, and he won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1939. Famous writers of the area are Nikola Andrić, Julije Benešić, and Antun Gustav Matoš.
Two museums
This city is one of the few in Croatia with two museums – the City Museum and the Vučedol Culture Museum.
It is a city that cannot be described but must be experienced!
